Xbox announces special edition anniversary console and controller for fall 2026

Xbox announced a new Xbox Series X special edition during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, and it's perfect for nostalgic Millennials. The Xbox Series X25 celebrates 25 years of Xbox with its design.

It's inspired by a green Halo-inspired special edition of the original Xbox. It features a translucent design like the hardware of yesteryear, such as the iconic Game Boy Advance, and sport Xbox's signature green color. The trailer even features gameplay of Halo: Campaign Evolved, because 2026 is really just 2001 all over again.

"The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition respects our history, with the power and performance of the Xbox Series X, including 1 TB of storage, and a design that reflects where we’ve been and the community that’s been with us along the way," a news release said.

A special edition translucent green controller was also announced. It's ABXY buttons feature the original Xbox controller's color scheme. One bumper is white and the other black, working as a callback to the Xbox controller's black and white buttons.

The Xbox Series X25 will be bundled with the controller, and the special edition controller will also be sold separately. They'll be released in November, but Xbox did not specify an exact date. It also didn't share any information about the price, though more information about how much this new hardware will cost (and where you can preorder) is expected soon.

The new Xbox Series X editions come amid hardware price increases across the board. Xbox hardware went up in price in September 2025, and an Xbox Series X now costs $599.99 for the digital edition and $649.99 for the standard edition. Sony recently raised PlayStation 5 hardware prices, while Nintendo is set to raise the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 in September.
