Bungie Fans Have Taken Over Sony’s State Of Play Broadcast To Demand Destiny 3

GameSpot » All News RSS FeedCheri Faulkner3 min read(3 months ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

Hosting a Sony State of Play broadcast not even two weeks after announcing that the next Destiny 2 update will be its last was always going to attract attention from the soon-to-be alienated player base. However, it's the week of Summer Game Fest, so it's pretty unavoidable.

As early as three hours prior to the broadcast beginning, there were almost 6,000 viewers waiting in the chat, with comments ranging from "Save Destiny!" through to "We Want Destiny 3" already popping up.

As the broadcast started, the enthusiasm only ramped up, with floods of messages of support for the Destiny franchise coming in. To the PlayStation Twitch moderators' benefit, they tried to delete messages spamming the #WeWantDestiny3 hashtag, but to little avail.

During a State of Play that focused on Marvel's Wolverine, God of War Laufey, Control Resonant, and a whole host of other titles but certainly not Destiny, it was a bold statement from fans of the franchise who are desperately wondering what comes next for the space shooter.

Prior to the broadcast, content creators Aztecross and Luckyy10p created emotes to use on Twitch to show their support for the development of Destiny 3, speculating that the chat could become so overwhelmed with Destiny supporters that the moderators would change the chat mode so that only emotes could be posted.

That didn't happen though, and fans were free to yell their support loudly over other games' showcases (via their keyboards).

While content creators, developers, and even the game's voice actors have made statements of support for Destiny, it's the fans who have been the loudest in an attempt to get decision makers at Sony and Bungie to provide insight on the franchise's future.

It remains unclear what comes next for Destiny, although players are asking everyone to rally in the Tower in-game when the final update is released on June 9.

Watch God Of War Laufey Star Smash The Last Of Us Golf Club Prop On Her First Day

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye in the upcoming PS5 game God of War Laufey(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufey-gameplay-release-date-and-everything-we-know-so-far/), and she had quite a memorable first day on set. At San Diego Comic-Con recently, she shared a story about how, on her very first day, she broke a famous prop from The Last of Us due to her strength and tenacity--only she didn't know the significance at the time. And now, footage of the event has arrived. "Unbeknownst to me, this was a very famous prop that they had used on The Last of Us," she said, going on to joke that it was "some sort of sporting equipment." It was actually a golf club prop, and you probably know what that means... "They gave it to me and I was supposed to use it like an axe. And I broke it," Woll said. Game director Ariel Lawrence added, "She swung it so hard, it cracked. And it echoed throughout the volume. And we were like, 'Hot damn, let's go.'" https://twitter.com/SonySantaMonica/status/2088280064974635337 God of War: Laufey is in the works now for PS5, and it's arriving in February 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/). Starring alongside Woll is The Boys actor Jack Quaid, who plays a gelatinous cube named Phranque(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufeys-phranque-is-far-from-just-a-cube/). A new Kratos-led game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/) is coming after that, and it will pick up where Laufey left off(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/kratos-next-god-of-war-game-will-pick-up-where-laufey-leaves-off/).

Wolverine on the PS5 made me care about Marvel’s mutant for the first time

Going into my demo of Marvel's Wolverine, I mainly wanted to try out the game's very bloody combat. And it is delightfully bloody. But after two-ish hours of slashing and stabbing (and parrying!) enemies with Wolverine's claws, I left surprised - despite no previous attachment to the character, I was deeply endeared to Logan himself. &8230;
