007 First Light: A New Home Challenges

Rock Paper Shotgun ยป Guidesโœ Ollie Tomsโฑ 11 min read(3 months ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

"A New Home" is the second major story mission in 007: First Light, and sees Bond working more closely with fellow recruits Monroe and Cressida to take down a couple of all-important flags as part of their training exercises. Naturally, it's in these two open-ended sections of the mission where most of the optional Challenges appear.

Of the 12 Challenges in this mission, most can be completed in a single run, as long as you can commit to a stealthy pacifist run for both the flag capture sequences. In the second run, you'll be able to let your hair down a bit, and embrace Monroe's preferred (and violent) approach to complete the remaining Challenges.

In the guide below, I'll walk you through all 12 Challenges for the "A New Home" mission, and the best paths to take in order to complete them as quickly and painlessly as possible.

All A New Home Challenges

There is a total of 12 Challenges to complete throughout the "A New Home" story mission, most of which occur either during the "In At The Deep End" checkpoint, or the "Search The Compound" checkpoint. So after the first completion, you can use these checkpoints to skip ahead straight to the important part of the mission.

Here are all 12 Challenges for "A New Home":

ChallengeDescription
1CompletionistComplete all Challenges in "A New Home" to unlock the Malta training outfit for TacSim.
2PacifistComplete "Something To Prove" and "White Flag".
3GhostComplete "Cressida's Way" and "Always Do The Unexpected".
4AssaultComplete "Monroe's Way" and "Party Crasher".
5Mr MnemonicGet the answer right in Monroe's memory game in the apartment.
6Something To ProveComplete "In At The Deep End" without knocking down any soldier.
7Cressida's WayComplete a full stealth run in "In At The Deep End".
8Monroe's WayTake down every enemy in "In At The Deep End".
9Spinning A YarnOnly lie to Greenway when Bond is strapped to the polygraph.
10White FlagReach the flag without taking down any soldiers in the compound.
11Always Do The UnexpectedGet to the flag without alerting anyone in the compound.
12Party CrasherTake down all the enemies in the compound before reaching the flag.

As with the previous mission "Against The Odds", it's not possible to complete every Challenge in "A New Home" in a single runthrough, because some Challenges are mutually exclusive (such as Cressida's Way vs Monroe's Way). Here's how I'd recommend splitting up the Challenges so you can complete them all in as few runs as possible.

Run 1: Challenges 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11

You can complete a lot of the Challenges in "A New Home" in one go, just by committing to a pacifist stealth run of the two important checkpoints (In At The Deep End, and Search The Compound). You can also complete Challenges 5 and 9 in the checkpoints "Home" and "Polygraph Lesson", respectively. Let's go through what to do.

Start from the first checkpoint of the mission: "Home". After talking with Cressida and placing your bag down in your room, tail Monroe until he asks if you want to play the memory card game. The correct answer is:

Umbrella and Crown

Now skip ahead to Checkpoint 3: In At The Deep End. The easiest way to get the flag without knocking down soldiers or being spotted is to follow this path:

  1. At the start, immediately jump down into the tall grass below you.

  2. Head round the left side. After the guard walks out, enter the room.

  3. Exit via the doorway nearest the flag, and use the ladder in front of you.

  4. Kick open the door at the top, and immediately climb up to your left.

  5. Head up the ladder and use Q-Lens to track the soldier's movements just beyond.

  6. As the soldier moves from right to left, squeeze through and take the ladder to your right.

This path allows you to quickly and easily reach the flag without having to perform any takedowns, much less be spotted.

In the next section, when you're hooked up to the polygraph, lie to Greenway at all three conversation moments to complete the "Spinning A Yarn" Challenge.

Next, skip ahead to the "Search The Compound" checkpoint, where you are given the objective to steal the flag from the soldiers at night. Once again, your aim is to reach the flag without alerting or taking down any soldiers.

Here's the easiest way to reach the flag in a stealth pacifist run:

  1. Drop down through the gap in the wall to your left.

  5. Step off onto the upper ledge and head left until you reach the balcony again.

The moment you regain control of Bond after the ensuing cutscene, you'll find that you've completed the White Flag and Always Do The Unexpected Challenges. These, in turn, will auto-complete the Ghost and Pacifist Challenges, leaving only four more Challenges to complete in your second run of the mission.

Run 2: Challenges 1, 4, 8, 12

In the second run, all you need to do is replay the "In At The Deep End" and "Search The Compound" sequences, and take down every single soldier in the compound both times.

I won't go into too much detail about how to do this, as there are virtually limitless opportunities for taking down soldiers both by using the environment and in direct fights. You can go in guns blazing, or stay quiet and take everyone out stealthily - it's up to you.

Make sure you use your Q-Lens to scan the area and take out every last soldier before picking up the flag in both areas of the mission. You'll immediately receive the Challenge completion notification after taking out all enemy soldiers. So if you haven't seen that notification, there are still more soldiers to defeat.

That wraps up this guide on how to easily complete all 12 optional Challenges in "A New Home", the next big story mission in 007: First Light after the intro mission, "Against The Odds".
