Sony announces new PlayStation State of Play for June 2026

Overview & Key Takeaways

State of Play returns June 2 with a new games showcase led by Marvel's Wolverine. Here's how and when to watch Sony's next State of Play.

Summer gaming season is almost here, and it looks like PlayStation will be first out of the gate. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday that a new State of Play games showcase is coming on June 2, and it will offer an extended look at Insomniac Games' upcoming superhero game, Marvel's Wolverine.

PlayStation's new State of Play will stream on Tuesday, June 2. The showcase promises "more than 60 minutes of updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world," said Tim Turi, content communications manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The next State of Play will stream on PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels at 2 p.m. PDT / 5 p.m. EDT / 11 p.m. CEST (and at 6 a.m. JST on June 3 in Japan).

What to expect from June's State of Play

Beyond Marvel's Wolverine, Sony hasn't confirmed any other PlayStation 5 games for June's State of Play. SIE's first-party studios have a handful of announced games in the works, including Santa Monica Studio's God of War trilogy remake, Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Guerrilla Games' Horizon Hunters Gathering. Sony is also rumored to be working on a new God of War spinoff game and a modern version of the Infamous franchise.

Sony's most recent State of Play was in February and featured third-party games like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Beast of Reincarnation, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Silent Hill: Downfall, Project Windless, 4:Loop, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. While PlayStation fans shouldn't expect major updates on every one of those titles, there's a good chance we get another look at them or some confirmed release dates. Here's a recap of everything that was announced at February's State of Play.

In terms of third parties, we're still waiting for updates on games from Sony's close partners, including Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts 4 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake's third chapter, and Capcom's new Onimusha and Mega Man entries.

One thing we shouldn't count on at this State of Play, though: more single-player PC ports of first-party PlayStation 5 games.

Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, sits in a chair. His expression is clearly irritated as he sits shirtless, one hand gripping a bottle of what’s probably alcohol. Related

Watch God Of War Laufey Star Smash The Last Of Us Golf Club Prop On Her First Day

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye in the upcoming PS5 game God of War Laufey(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufey-gameplay-release-date-and-everything-we-know-so-far/), and she had quite a memorable first day on set. At San Diego Comic-Con recently, she shared a story about how, on her very first day, she broke a famous prop from The Last of Us due to her strength and tenacity--only she didn't know the significance at the time. And now, footage of the event has arrived. "Unbeknownst to me, this was a very famous prop that they had used on The Last of Us," she said, going on to joke that it was "some sort of sporting equipment." It was actually a golf club prop, and you probably know what that means... "They gave it to me and I was supposed to use it like an axe. And I broke it," Woll said. Game director Ariel Lawrence added, "She swung it so hard, it cracked. And it echoed throughout the volume. And we were like, 'Hot damn, let's go.'" https://twitter.com/SonySantaMonica/status/2088280064974635337 God of War: Laufey is in the works now for PS5, and it's arriving in February 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/). Starring alongside Woll is The Boys actor Jack Quaid, who plays a gelatinous cube named Phranque(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufeys-phranque-is-far-from-just-a-cube/). A new Kratos-led game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/) is coming after that, and it will pick up where Laufey left off(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/kratos-next-god-of-war-game-will-pick-up-where-laufey-leaves-off/).

Wolverine on the PS5 made me care about Marvel’s mutant for the first time

Going into my demo of Marvel's Wolverine, I mainly wanted to try out the game's very bloody combat. And it is delightfully bloody. But after two-ish hours of slashing and stabbing (and parrying!) enemies with Wolverine's claws, I left surprised - despite no previous attachment to the character, I was deeply endeared to Logan himself. &8230;
