Overview & Key Takeaways

Do you want to unlock the Bioreactor in Subnautica 2? This massive fixture creates energy for your base, and all you need to do is put a few fibers and fuels to keep it running. That said, you still need to scan a bunch of blueprints for it.

Subnautica 2 base guide - The Bioreactor

The Subnautica 2 Bioreactor can only be unlocked upon scanning three fragments. Several are scattered in the Shallows region, and we've listed a few that we've found in our playthrough. As usual, we encourage you to read our mini-walkthrough, since it gives you an idea as to where you ought to go next for the campaign.

Bioreactor fragment #1

You're going to stumble upon this Bioreactor fragment sooner or later. That's because it's in the area that gets a marker for the Chap blackbox signal (assuming you're doing the tasks given by the NOA Terminal).

The location is roughly 400 meters southeast from the Lifepod. As you approach, you'll see a Giant Coral Crab and several rock pillars. Dive down the tunnel to discover a Colonist Bunker, which happens to have a scannable Bioreactor and a Biobed upgrade.

Bioreactor fragment #2

This Subnautica 2 Bioreactor fragment is around 370 southwest from the Lifepod. If you were just at location #1, you can skirt around the cliffside edge until you see a crashed ship. Just past that, there's more wreckage surrounded by a bunch of Surge Jellies.

Bioreactor fragment #3

There's a Bioreactor fragment in a facility known as the Old Habitat, which is 400 meters north-northeast from the Lifepod. Enter the facility via the hatch at the back. In the next chamber, make a right just past the scuba tank. You should then see a ruined Bioreactor piece to your left.

Bioreactor fragment #4

Speaking of the Old Habitat, there's an area in the Shallows that has dozens of BFJs, which we've taken to calling Big Friggin' Jellies. There's another scannable fragment in this place. It's approximately 450 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod. It's also 150 meters east-northeast from the Old Habitat if you've already visited that facility.

Bioreactor fragment #5

There's a Subnautica 2 Bioreactor fragment that's around 300 meters east-northeast from the Lifepod. It's fairly close to a crashed Alterra ship--i.e. Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage). Just watch out for the annoying Hammerheads that want to smash into you.

Bioreactor fragment #6

The Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage) that we mentioned--i.e. roughly 380 meters east-northeast from the Lifepod--actually has another fragment. Swim inside the hold to spot it right next to a Tadpole fragment.

Bioreactor fragment #7

Last but not least, you can scan another Bioreactor fragment approximately 400 meters east-northeast from the Lifepod, or just a short distance away from locations #5 and #6. It's inside a crate next to an orange coral growth. This area is also fairly close to the border of Zezuran Desert, where the temperature begins to rise.

Bioreactor crafting materials and usage

Once you've unlocked the Bioreactor in Subnautica 2, it's time to construct it in your base. Here's what you need to know:

  • Unlike other energy-related fixtures, the Bioreactor is in the Interior Facilities tab of the Habitat Builder. It costs 2x Titanium Ingot and 2x Copper Ingot, which means you need to manufacture these materials via the Processor.
  • The Bioreactor can use various types of biodegradable resources, fibers, and fuels. These include alien fish and alien plants (even harvested stuff like Medical Gel Sacs). The resource will then get consumed over time.
  • By default, Normal mode generates only +10 energy per second. However, if you switch it to Overdrive mode, the Bioreactor will generate +20 energy per second. That said, doing this will cause the selected materials to get used up faster.

That does it for our guide on how to unlock the Bioreactor in Subnautica 2. If you're curious about other energy generating structures for your base, you can take a look at our guides for the Hydroelectric Turbine and Thermal Plant. Oh, and if you need more plants and biofuel, we suggest acquiring the Growbed so you can harvest alien plants.

Subnautica 2 is currently in early access, which means new biomes, systems, and story beats are expected to be added as part of updates. For everything you need to know about the game, you can visit our Subnautica 2 guides hub.

GTA 6’s Extended Look Trailer Seemingly Paid Off For Netflix With Massive Viewership

Netflix has confirmed(https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/top-10-august-24-2026) that GTA 6's recent "extended look" trailer(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6s-big-reveal-all-the-things-we-learned/) was the streamer's most-viewed title overall last week, drawing 31.1 million views. The trailer was labeled an "English-language film" by Netflix, and it was No. 1 by that designation in 87 of 93 regions globally that Netflix's tracks. The GTA 6 trailer was well ahead of the No. 2 title last week, which was the movie The Whisper Man, which had 23.2 million viewers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpPpqZwUwl0 Netflix's view counts cover views for each title from Monday to Sunday of the previous week. A "view" is defined by Netflix as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime. Netflix publishes this data each Tuesday. The extended look trailer was published first on Netflix before being released on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and elsewhere six hours later. Rockstar's own video has 17 million views(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJbzMqJGH4k), but YouTube counts views differently, and that represents just one channel, as numerous other sites and sources hosted it, including here at GameSpot.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsyOVBDRgtk) Netflix called its partnership with Rockstar Games for the trailer a "first-of-its-kind"(https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-extended-first-look) offering for the popular streaming platform. Netflix's stock price has crashed since its bailed out of its deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, and the company has undertaken numerous efforts to increase engagement and total watching time on the platform. Beyond this partnership for the GTA 6 trailer, Netflix has expanded into video podcasts. The New York Times recently reported(https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/business/media/amazon-youtube-netflix-streaming-platform.html) that Netflix is in discussions to add Fox One and Peacock to the platform, while it's also been reported that Netflix could add free ad-supported TV content(https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/netflix-not-launching-fast-offering-yet-1236650551/). As for GTA 6, the game launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Releasing Cyberpunk 2077 In Its Poor State “Was For Sure Wrong,” CD Projekt Admits

CD Projekt Red's RPG Cyberpunk 2077 infamously launched in December 2020 in such a poor technical state that Sony took the rare move to remove it from the PlayStation Store. Thousands of people refunded the game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-sold-13-7-million-copies-in-21-days-30000-people-got-refunds/1100-6490486/). CD Projekt joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski has now reflected on this, saying it "was for sure wrong" to launch the game in that state, but he pushed back against the theory that the studio did so to appease investors who wanted to see financial returns. Speaking to The Game Business(https://www.thegamebusiness.com/p/cd-projekt-red-if-you-want-a-cost), Nowakowski said COVID "was a factor" in the game's rough state at launch, because "the team was getting exhausted in a different way." He admitted there were "people outside telling us we should launch," and fans lobbied for this as well. The developers themselves also "wanted to push it out the door" because the ongoing development was "really tiring." Looking back on it, now with the benefit of hindsight, Nowakowski said, "The decision to launch was for sure wrong, period. There is no denying it." That being said, Nowakowski said, "There were no magical investors telling us, 'You have to get this out.'" Instead, he said, "It was much more complicated and psychological." !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/cyberpunk20bf82.jpg?w=636) A scene from Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt's fiscal years follow the calendar and end on December 31. Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10 in 2020, and this timing led people to wonder if the developer put the game out then instead of delaying to 2021 to meet the fiscal deadline. There is, after all, precedent for game developers pushing games out the door in a rough state to hit certain fiscal deadlines. Cyberpunk 2077 might have released in a rough technical state, but it was a smashing success at launch commercially. The game sold nearly 14 million copies right out of the gate, which made it one of the most successful RPG releases in the history of video games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-sold-13-7-million-copies-in-21-days-30000-people-got-refunds/1100-6490486/). Given that success, CD Projekt Red executives got multimillion-dollar bonus payouts(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-dev-execs-got-huge-bonuses-despite-games-troubled-launch/1100-6490859/), while developers also took home big bonus payouts related to the game's huge success in sales. Following Cyberpunk 2077's rough launch, CD Projekt Red steadily supported the game with numerous updates and improvements over the years, culminating with a massive, game-changing 2.0 update in 2023(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-2-0-update-rebuilds-its-gameplay-to-make-a-fantastic-rpg/1100-6517704/) alongside the Phantom Liberty expansion. Today, the game has sold more than 40 million copies(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-just-hit-another-massive-sales-milestone/). In other news about Cyberpunk 2077, Microsoft just announced that the game is leaving Xbox Game Pass soon(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-game-pass-removes-cyberpunk-2077-and-9-other-games-very-soon/). Given the huge commercial success of Cyberpunk 2077, it only makes sense that CD Projekt is now making Cyberpunk 2, but it is likely still years away from release(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cyberpunk-2-is-probably-further-away-than-you-hope/1100-6531896/). On the more immediate horizon is The Witcher 3: Remastered this year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-witcher-3-remastered-is-adding-dozens-of-upgrades-and-it-might-be-free-for-you/), The Witcher 3's new Songs of the Past expansion in 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-witcher-3-songs-of-the-past-is-a-mystery-centered-on-dandelion/), and then The Witcher 4 in 2028.(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/witcher-4-release-window-narrowed-down-to-2028/) Fans hoping to play The Witcher 1's remake might want to get comfortable(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-witcher-remake-is-waiting-on-the-witcher-4-to-continue-development).
