Overview & Key Takeaways

Subnautica 2 and 007: First Light, both of which release this month, were not made using generative AI technologies.

First Light art director Rasmus Poulsen told Eurogamer that it was decided based on a "combined discussion between core executives" at developer IO Interactive that the team would not use generative AI for the James Bond game.

"I think it's a large discussion. I'd rather not dive into the details, because it's complicated," Poulsen added.

Now Playing: 007 First Light Could Be 2026's Game Of The Year?

"I think it's a large discussion. I'd rather not dive into the details, because it's complicated," Poulsen added.

As for Subnautica 2, the game's creative media producer Scott MacDonald told Eurogamer that, "We're not using generative AI in Subnautica 2 at all." He said generative AI is an "interesting technology, but it's not something we're using at all."

In 2025, Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds' owner Krafton said it was investing many millions of dollars to become an AI-first company. MacDonald said what this meant for Subnautica 2 was that Krafton provided "all the tools" for AI if Unknown Worlds wanted to use them, and the studio decided doing so didn't fit with the team's vision.

"I think [Krafton] is smart enough to know that if we had to use those tools it could be disruptive to our process at this point. So a mandate would be harmful to the development of the game," design lead Anthony Gallegos said.

Subnautica 2 launches into early access on May 14, with First Light following on May 27, although people looking to play on Switch 2 have to wait longer.

The use of generative AI in games has been a hot topic. In related news, the developers of the Kingdom Come series recently responded to an accusation that it fired a developer to save money with AI. Also recently came the announcement that EA's quality-assurance teams use AI systems to assist them. Reporter Jason Schreier recently said almost every big game studio is currently using some form of AI in their processes.

Xbox Announces Monthly Hour Limits To Cloud Gaming Are Coming In November

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/c3df146d/xbox-cloud-gaming-1.jpg.webp) Xbox has announced a major change to its cloud gaming service, which is included in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. Starting in November, Game Pass plans will now have limits on the number of hours players can spend cloud gaming based on their subscription tier. Xbox Cloud Gaming launched in 2020(https://gameinformer.com/2020/09/14/xbox-cloud-gaming-launches-tomorrow-with-more-than-150-games) and allows users to stream select games over the internet to supported mobile devices, letting them enjoy console-quality experiences on the go. There has never been a limit to using the feature, but this will soon change according to an Xbox Wire Post(https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/09/03/xbox-cloud-gaming-changes/). In November, the number of cloud gaming hours allotted each month will be as follows: - Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours - Game Pass Premium: 10 hours - Game Pass Essential: 5 hours “Today, eligible Game Pass subscribers can stream without these monthly hour limits,” reads Xbox’s post. “We recognize that introducing limits is a meaningful change, particularly for players who regularly spend more time gaming through the cloud. We expect this upcoming change to impact 4% of Game Pass subscribers.” Xbox adds that once players use up the hours of cloud gaming play time included in their monthly subscription, they can purchase additional hours. This pricing has not been detailed yet, and will vary by market. Additionally, players can now use cloud gaming without subscribing to Game Pass by purchasing cloud playtime hours à la carte to stream games on supported devices. Xbox promises to provide information on pricing for playtime hours, the eligible games, how to check remaining hours, and more in November. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/ff57b959/xbox-cloud-playtime-hours.jpg.webp) As for why Xbox is making this change, it states, “We’re introducing this model because the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer. Moving to monthly limits allows us to keep offering the service while continuing to invest in its reliability and performance. We understand that for some players the practical result is a higher cost.” This move is the latest big change in a year full of them for Xbox. Following the appointment of current CEO Asha Sharma(https://gameinformer.com/2026/02/20/phil-spencer-is-retiring-xbox-president-sarah-bond-is-leaving-and-microsofts-coreai-head) in February, the company has undergone a massive restructuring(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/06/xbox-parts-ways-with-five-studios-over-3000-layoffs-announced), resulting in 3,000 layoffs across the entire Xbox division and the splitting off of five internal development studios. Xbox Game Pass subscriptions dropped in price(https://gameinformer.com/2026/04/21/xbox-drops-prices-for-game-pass-ultimate-and-pc-game-pass-but-new-call-of-duty-games) in response to a previous hike, but Xbox consoles had another price increase(https://gameinformer.com/2026/06/25/xbox-consoles-are-getting-another-price-increase-in-august) in the past month. Most recently, Xbox announced a program letting players use their physical game discs to claim entitlement to their digital counterparts(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/26/xbox-announces-disc-to-digital-program-letting-players-use-physical-games-to-claim-their). These big shifts come as Xbox prepares its next-generation console, Project Helix(https://gameinformer.com/2026/03/12/xbox-shares-new-hardware-details-for-next-generation-console-project-helix).
