Michael Jackson Moonwalks Onto Blu-Ray With Two Stunning Steelbook Editions

Michael Jackson was a musical force during the '80s and '90s, and it was only a matter of time before a big-budget autobiographical movie about the King of Pop was made. That film, Michael, has just hit theaters, and preorders for are already live for the upcoming Blu-ray, including unique steelbook edition 4K Blu-rays exclusively at Amazon and Walmart. An exact release date hasn't been revealed for Michael's home media release, but the exclusive 4K steelbook editions are priced at $35 and available to preorder now.

Amazon's exclusive steelbook edition features a stylized image of Michael Jackson (played by his real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson) in one of his iconic touring outfits. The slipcase cover can be removed to reveal more of the illustration's details. The rear cover shows images of Jackson throughout his musical phases, from Billie Jean to Thriller. Tech specs have yet to be confirmed, but the 4K release will likely offer Dolby Vision, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos support.

Special features have yet to be revealed, but this version of Michael includes a standard Blu-ray copy of the movie and a digital streaming code.

Michael Walmart-exclusive steelbook (4K Blu-ray)

Walmart's exclusive steelbook keeps things simple by reprinting one of the Michael movie posters on the tin. This poster captures the flashier side of Jackson after he began his solo career, wearing glittering stage clothes and his signature glove. This version also includes a standard Blu-ray copy of the movie and a digital streaming code.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, reviews for Michael have been less than kind so far. Jaafar Jackson's portrayal has been praised, and the music choreography recreates Jackson's rich musical legacy. However, critics say Michael deifies the late pop star and paints him as a flawless saint. The movie only covers Jackson's life up to 1988 and hints at a possible sequel, ending before he made changes to his appearance and was accused of child abuse.

Preorders are also open for Michael on standard home media formats through Amazon. These versions will likely be identical to the steelbook in content, with the only difference being the Blu-rays' look, which use the theatrical poster for the cover.
