As part of Final Fantasy Fan Fest today, Square Enix's Naoki Yoshida reminded fans that the end is nigh for the PlayStation 4 version of the long-running online game Final Fantasy XIV, with Yoshida joking that people should start saving now for a PS5.

"While Sony has allowed us to 'limit break' certain requirements, we're quickly approaching the physical limit," Yoshida said on stage. "You have two years to save up for a PS5."

The PS5 just went up in price, rising all the way to $900 for a PS5 Pro for those who want the highest-end experience possible. The cheapest PS5 you can buy now is the $600 digital edition, and that's $200 more than what the system cost when it launched. Sony attributed the price hikes to the "global economic landscape."

Some of the other news from Final Fantasy Fan Fest included Final Fantasy XIV getting a series of Evangelion raids and a new expansion, Evercold. Yoshia also announced that the developers will introduce seasons to the game, with every two patches now acting as one season, and they're actively working on improving quest design.

What's more, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is already available on numerous other platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

GTA 6 Does Look A Bit Different In New PS5 Promo

Sony is flexing its video game muscle with a new "It Happens On PS5" ad campaign(https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/17/new-it-happens-on-ps5-campaign-highlights-the-biggest-moments-of-play/), and the one-minute video features arguably the most anticipated title ever: Grand Theft Auto VI(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/). Now, to be clear, there are only snippets of old footage for the open-world experience. But you should know by now that won't stop the internet from poring over every single little detail. For example, the X account DriftRespawn(https://x.com/playb0y4L/status/2089357629906674135) notes that letterboxing has been removed in the new PS5 promo from a clip where Jason Duval is hanging on to the back of a convertible, with Lucia driving the car. This scene first appeared in GTA 6's Trailer 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6s-trailer-2-looked-great-and-it-wasnt-all-cutscenes/1100-6531380/) from May 2025. The scene does seem lighter in the PS5 ad, and Lucia's face has a few minor differences. Her eyebrows are less pronounced and her hair color appears browner, though this might be because of the changed lighting in general.
