Twenty-five years in and RuneScape is still opening new doors. Dragonwilds has been doing that literally. It’s a survival crafting take on the franchise that's been building steadily and hasn't really stopped moving.
The latest update, Dowdun Reach, is live now, and it's the most foreboding corner of Ashenfall yet. A cursed fortress, a Black Knight Titan, and a region that clearly isn't interested in easing you in.
Skill caps stretching to 99 arrive alongside it, which immediately changes how progression feels. There's more runway now across everything – gathering, combat, crafting, and it lands at exactly the right moment, given how much the new region is asking of you.
Mithril is the new material tier, with veins running throughout the fortress waiting to be tracked down and mined. It feeds into eight new weapons, including greataxes and greatswords for anyone who likes their loadout heavy, while blue dragon hides found roaming Dowdun Reach can be crafted into dragonhide armour.
Mystic robes make their Dragonwilds debut here too, which magic-focused players have been waiting on for a while.
Co-op gets a meaningful bump as well. Dedicated servers are now live through Shockbyte, pushing the player count from four to six. In a survival crafting game built around roles and resource division, two extra players will change the dynamic more than it might sound.
Now, before you raise an eyebrow, yes, Dragonwilds is currently still in Early Access on Steam, with no official word yet on a mobile launch. But, given how previous entries in the franchise have indeed launched onto the humble smartphone, we can hopefully keep our fingers crossed that this one will do the same!
