Crimson Desert's upcoming DLC decides it's The Sims now, I guess

Overview & Key Takeaways

Charting the Unknown somehow adds even more stuff to the game that does everything.

Crimson Desert is like the videogame version of a 6-in-1 shampoo—it does just about everything, and with its upcoming DLC Charting the Unknown, I guess that also includes The Sims.

Today's State of Play showed off a trailer with what we can expect to see, and there's a lot. Like building a whole-ass castle, for example. It looks like you can go pretty ham on some Sims-style building within those stony walls, too—the trailer shows a tool which you can drag to build walls and rooms inside the castle. Yup, just like The Sims! There's a whole bunch of furniture as well, including a slightly unusual framed portrait of a tiger that Kliff has deigned to display outside his home, for whatever reason.

Watch On

It looks like you'll be able to build a village around this castle as well, perhaps similar to the Greymanes camp you form in the main game. There are people cooking, little village stalls, and plenty of chatter that seems to be happening either within the castle walls or just outside of them. How different it'll be to the Greymane's camp remains to be seen, but it is looking like a surprisingly cosy endeavour.

Something I am curious about, though, is the fact it looks like Kliff can romance (or at least gussy up to) other characters. There's a tiny snippet of him offering flowers to one of the game's witches—something she seems pretty darn jazzed about, by the way—though it's unclear what purpose it actually serves. I wonder how Kliff would actually rizz anyone in Crimson Desert, for how limited his dialogue is.

Some other bits I noticed include:

  • Running on water
  • Underwater traversal, including grabbing onto a shark like some sort of aquatic Uber
  • Both a traditional looking ship and something more steampunk-looking
  • Fellow Greymane Andrew cheffing it up in the castle
  • Some crazy laser-eyed mechanical cyclops monster

The most surprising part of all of this, though? Charting the Unknown is set to release October 15. Yes, this October. A mere seven months after launching and somehow cooked up in the midst of a dizzying number of patches and tweaks that have contorted Crimson Desert into something that is completely unlike the game I reviewed back in March.

How Pearl Abyss has managed to do all of this is beyond me, but hey, it's coming pretty darn soon. I am admittedly pretty giddy at the idea of going full Sims-esque castle building, so I'll undoubtedly be returning to Pywel before long.

Epic Games’ New Voice Chat Lets You Keep Talking To Friends While Playing Different Games🖥 PlayStation, PC, Mobile, Multi-platform

Epic Games’ New Voice Chat Lets You Keep Talking To Friends While Playing Different Games

Epic Games has announced that it's going to make it easier than ever to hang out and talk with friends across different platforms by launching Epic Parties. This voice chat service will work across Fortnite (on all supported platforms), the Epic Games Store launcher (PC, iOS, and Android), and the Epic Games app (iOS and Android). For example, you can start a voice party from your phone or PC launcher, ring up a friend who is busy playing Fortnite on their PlayStation, and even transfer that call from your phone to your PC when you get back to your desk. This means that you can sit in on a voice call through the Epic PC Launcher while playing completely different games from your Epic library. Other benefits include a seamless approach to grouping friends together, as Epic says that if you're in a voice party with friends and everyone decides to open Fortnite, then the game will automatically drop you all into the same lobby together. This new feature is competing directly with Discord, which has been the go-to third-party app for users for several years. Epic's built-in alternative aims to let users bring their social list, voice channels, and digital avatar with them across multiple platforms and from game to game, whether you are on iOS, Android, PC, or console. Epic has also hinted that these voice and avatar systems will be integrated directly into Unreal Engine 6, and the tools will be offered to other developers in time. For now, it's currently rolling out to Fortnite, and Epic Parties will be available in Rocket League next year. According to Epic's year-in-review stats(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/people-spent-more-but-played-less-on-the-epic-games-store-in-2025/2900-7449/), over $1 billion was spent in the store in 2025, and it reached an all-time record of 78 million monthly active users on PC. Earlier this year, Epic spoke more about its plans to further improve its digital storefront(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/epic-explains-its-blend-of-blockbusters-and-smaller-games-for-weekly-freebies/1100-6538882/). "Our goal is to keep building a storefront and launcher that players want to engage with and use to grow their game library, but we need to be able to connect players with the game they want to play at the time they want to play it," Kyle Billings, director of strategy and business operations at the Epic Games Store, said to GameSpot.
