Marvel Officially Reveals New Version of Doctor Strange Ahead of 'Avengers: Doomsday'

Doctor Strange has had quite the adventurous recent years in the pages of Marvel comics. He's ventured through space, died, been brought back to life, traveled to Asgard, and even briefly teamed up with the Hulk for a quick adventure. This month, Doctor Strange travels to the Nightmare Realm in a new graphic novel from Abrams ComicArts’ Marvel Arts line.
In Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare, the Sorcerer Supreme contends with a world suddenly stricken by insomnia. To investigate this magical and nightmarish disaster, Doctor Strange must travel to the Nightmare Realm. "Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare explores the boundary between dreams and reality, combining forces with an unlikely ally in order to end a waking nightmare that threatens to destroy the world," reads its official description.
The chaotic events of the book are kicked off by a mysterious hospital patient. He raves about a "slumbering god" and how the entire multiverse will be destroyed if it wakes. Intense stuff! You can take a look at the preview pages below, which show that early scene before chaos truly unfolds.

Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare is written by Kevin J. Anderson with art by Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín. The trio previously worked together, along with Brian Herbert, on Abrams' Dune graphic novel adaptations.
The Marvel Arts line is curated by iconic cover artist Alex Ross, whose Marvel Dimensions graphic novel was just released Tuesday. "Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín’s work presents a fully lived-in New York you feel like you can visit. Their use of Doctor Strange is as close as we’ll get to a contemporary Little Nemo in Slumberland, with the majesty of Winsor McCay’s art and storytelling. I am thrilled to have Kevin J. Anderson, Raúl, and Patricia part of the Marvel Arts line. Their combined artistry elevates the possibilities of the graphic novel format," he said of Endless Nightmare.
“The character of Doctor Strange has access to so many bizarre realms, I wanted to introduce him to a dark and twisted Lovecraft-inspired story.” said Kevin J. Anderson in a statement. “I brought in an important and popular villain in the Doctor Strange universe, as well as another villain who has never appeared since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created him in 1964’s Dr. Strange #122. It was amazing to play in this universe.”
Though his potential on-screen return in Avengers: Doomsday is still up in the air, you'll see Doctor Strange next in Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare. It will be released in hardcover for $25.99 on Sept. 8.
