Overview & Key Takeaways

'Elden Ring' is getting a huge new patch that adds new weapons and rebalances several items.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, which bundles the base game and its excellent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC alongside some new additions, is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this week. As part of its release, Elden Ring is getting a major new patch across all systems, with the new weapons and armor added with the Switch 2 edition of the game for sale as the “Tarnished Pack” DLC.

Tarnished Edition includes two new starting classes, new weapons that can be found or purchased from merchants, and three new attire options for the spectral steed Torrent. Other additions include new invasion events in Caelid and Leyndell, including one where a devout, mostly naked man attacks you with a flail. The DLC will be available on all systems on Aug. 28, the same day the Switch 2 releases.

However, even those who don’t pay for this new content will find a long list of balance changes and other updates. For starters, from now on, certain powerful enemies in the Realm of Shadow will drop higher-tier items and treasures. Numerous weapons received buffs, including Rellana’s Twin Blades and Spear of the Impaler, while several shields received better guard boost (what percent of incoming damage is blocked) and reduced weight. Perfume Bottle enjoyers will be pleased to find attack power increases that may make this tool less niche. Several underused sorceries and incantations also received improvements. The only nerf in PvE was to Rakshasa’s Great Katana, which now has a greater delay to right-hand attacks after attacking with a left-hand weapon.

One of the biggest potential changes is that parries have been enhanced across the board, with “improved parry performance.” Presumably, this means a larger parry window or faster activation. There were also a handful of PvP nerfs where Rakshasa’s Great Katana got hit again, as well as a few incantations.

The critical response to Elden Ring Tarnished Edition on the Switch 2 has been quite positive, with critics impressed by how well the game runs on the handheld. This version was originally planned for 2025 but was delayed so the team could optimize the game’s performance after a rough showing at last year's Gamescom.

The full patch notes for Elden Ring version 1.17 can be found below.

Devolver Digital Reveals Its GTA 6 Competitor, And It’s A Remaster Of A Nonexistent Remake

Few game companies are brave enough to go head-to-head with the release of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6(https://www.gamespot.com/games/grand-theft-auto-vi/), but that's exactly what publisher Devolver Digital is doing with the launch of Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed on November 19. Billed as a "remaster of the second remake of the original monochrome action-platformer starring the most famous video game mascot of all time," Volvy's Adventure is actually almost none of those things. The original "Volvy's Adventure" doesn't exist. This isn't a remaster but an entirely new and original game. Volvy, while actually being Devolver Digital's tongue-in-cheek platformer mascot, is obviously not the most famous of "all time." So what is Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed, actually? It's a Game Boy Color-style 2D platformer coming to Steam(https://store.steampowered.com/app/4523120/VolvysAdventureReslimed/) from developer Doinksoft, the studio behind 2D sidescrollers like Gato Roboto(https://www.gamespot.com/games/gato-roboto/) and Gunbrella(https://www.gamespot.com/games/gunbrella/). Volvy himself is a rat-esque (I think?) creature with one big hand and one small hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UEeIDWVZY8 Like any good platforming mascot, Volvy dashes and jumps through levels while collecting items (in this case, onions), bouncing on the heads of enemies, and battling bosses. Occasionally, Volvy transforms into a hulked out alter-ego called Swolvy capable of smashing through anything that gets in his way. It's all a little absurd, but that's also what makes it fun. While much of the marketing and the entire premise of Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed comes off as a meta-video-game-industry joke, the actual game on display in its debut trailer looks like a rollicking good time. Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed is immediately reminiscent of its Game Boy Color-era inspirations, with a vibrant art style, a popping soundtrack, and kinetic movement. Volvy can dash through the air with his giant fist, burrow underground, or hover like a helicopter using his tail, and the trailer shows how all these abilities can all be chained together. GTA 6 will certainly be hogging the headlines when it releases in November, but the open-world crime simulator isn't everyone's cup of tea, is $80 (or $100)(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-how-much-youll-pay-for-gta-6-and-whats-included-in-the-ultimate-edition/), and isn't releasing on PC at launch. Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed, at only $5, offers a nice bit of counterprogramming then for those who are looking for something else to do November 19. Surprisingly, Volvy isn't the only one bold enough to release on the same day as GTA 6. The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ Online, a port adding online co-op, is also releasing November 19.

Elden Ring On Switch 2 – The Worst Way To Play The Best Game🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Elden Ring On Switch 2 – The Worst Way To Play The Best Game

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/04/51cc860d/eldenringswitch2.jpg.webp) Firstly, I admit my headline is hyperbolic. Best and worst are subjective and neither word is fully applicable when it comes to Elden Ring on Switch 2. The wordier, more accurate headline that would not inspire the precious clicks that we need to survive in this media ~~hellscape~~ landscape is, “Elden Ring is Okay on Switch 2, so if you can play it somewhere else I would recommend that, but if this is your only option and you haven’t already played it, then this version will get the job done.” I played about two hours of Elden Ring on Switch 2 in docked mode. Moving through the tutorial in the caves feels pretty good. It does not hit 60 FPS, unfortunately, but it is consistent, which is important. Leaving the caves and entering the open world is where the game stumbles, but not dangerously so. Swinging the camera around quickly in the open world is uncomfortable and jumping on your horse, Torrent, is where I felt the game struggle the most. But it’s not a disaster. And to be fair, wildly swinging the camera around in the open world is not how anyone plays Elden Ring. Jumping into the little pockets of combat strewn across the open world was more than manageable, as you are focusing the camera on your enemy, not the insane looking castle in the distance. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/21/650fa7ce/screenshot-00001.jpg.webp) When I encountered monsters like the lovely fella seen above, the game also did not struggle as I feared it would. Playing Elden Ring on Switch 2 made me think of Resident Evil 2 on Nintendo 64, which was personally my first experience with the franchise. The N64 version of that game had some improvements compared to its PlayStation counterpart, but its cutscenes and backgrounds were highly compressed to fit on a cartridge instead of discs. It is generally considered the inferior version of the game, but is a perfectly reasonable way to play and when I was young, it was my only option. I did not feel as though I had missed on an important element of the Resident Evil 2 experience. If you’re in that boat, maybe a young or new player who only has a Switch 2 and no other available platforms, and you’re excited to play what some have called the best game ever made (again… subjective), then Elden Ring on Switch 2 will get the job done. I believe you will get the Elden Ring experience here, but with some asterisks. This is not a Switch 1 port of a PlayStation 5 game where the framerate is merely a suggestion and everything looks out of focus. Elden Ring on Switch 2 is a much better port than say, The Outer Worlds on Switch 1. However, if you’re like me and you put hundreds of hours into the game on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, or a solid PC, then you will see those asterisks the moment you load the game on Switch 2. You have a point of comparison and you won’t be able to get all those beautiful additional frames those platforms afforded you.
