Prime Video’s Reacher Replacement Officially Arrives in 3 Weeks

While Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) spends season 4 battling a high-stakes conspiracy across Philadelphia, fan-favorite Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) has so far been conspicuously absent — busy, it’s assumed, laying the groundwork for her own solo operation. A fierce former Master Sergeant from the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit turned corporate PI, Neagley has always been the smartest person in Jack's orbit. Now, she steps out of his massive shadow as a suspicious death from her past pulls her into a lethal game of her own.

Don't fret too much if you haven’t been keeping up with your Reacher lore. While it carries the franchise's signature hard-hitting DNA, Neagley is built as a sharp, standalone thriller, so there’s no homework required.

As the name implies, Neagley follows Frances Neagley, a former member of the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit and one of Jack Reacher’s closest allies. In the present day, she works as a private investigator in Chicago, putting the skills she developed alongside Reacher to good use in her own cases.

The new spin-off series kicks off when Neagley learns of a close friend’s drug-related suicide on a pair of train tracks in Chicago. Channeling her inner Reacher, she refuses to accept the official ruling. No sooner does she begin investigating the scene than she finds herself in the crosshairs of a lethal, far-reaching conspiracy.

The setup should feel familiar to Reacher fans and readers of Lee Child’s novels. It has the same basic appeal of following a highly capable investigator on the fringes of the law, one who is willing to ignore conventional rules when the facts don't seem to add up. The major difference in this series is that Neagley isn't wandering from town to town like Reacher. She's established in Chicago and has her own career, relationships, and methods, which should give the show a compelling anchor.

Maria Sten — who has been a scene-stealer since her franchise debut in Reacher’s fifth episode — reprises the role she’s perfected over the past three seasons. And while Alan Ritchson is confirmed to drop by as the big guy himself, this eight-episode run is officially uncharted territory. Instead of adapting a specific Lee Child novel, Neagley is telling a completely original story, and Child is actually co-writing a standalone Neagley novel, Zero Margin, set to drop in 2027 after the show airs. Still, the franchise’s creative DNA remains fully intact. Reacher mastermind Nick Santora co-created the spin-off alongside Nicholas Wootton, veteran Reacher director Sam Hill helmed the first two episodes, and Child himself remains deeply involved as an executive producer.

For fans of Child’s books, Neagley is also a particularly natural character to build a spin-off around. She's one of the few people Reacher genuinely trusts, and the character has become increasingly prominent in the novels over the years.

Prime Video's schedule has the eighth and final episode of the season arriving September 16, immediately handing the baton to Neagley.
