Overview & Key Takeaways

We reported on a possible prequel to Gaucho and the Grassland last month, and it seems this has finally arrived in the form of Gaucho Origins! In particular, this cosy life sim will feature the father of the main game's protagonist, and, as you might expect, the story starts with him getting ready for the birth of his child. Now, what's more exciting is that Gaucho Origins is made for mobile specifically, and Epopeia Games has chosen to craft this as a premium sim with no ads or microtransactions to boot. Gaucho’s dad is the first Guardian of the Pampas, so expect to see how a new mysterious force shapes his role as such.  ... [MORE]

You'll explore different landscapes on a quest to rescue the region from this corrupting force, which takes inspiration from southern Brazilian culture and folklore. You'll gather, craft, and build structures in this standalone tale, so even if you have no prior experience with Gaucho, you can still enjoy this sim on its own.

For a bit of insight into how the whole project began, this was initially selected for the Google Play Indie Games Fund, which offers support for indie studios in Latin America. This led to Epopeia Games teaming up with Izyplay, and now, we can happily enjoy Gaucho's father's tale on Android.

Now, Gaucho Origins, as mentioned, is a premium purchase, but at $3.99 a pop, I'd say it's worth having a go since it offers an ad-free experience that's playable offline too. There are no timers or pesky energy systems either, with an estimated 12 hours of gameplay to sink your teeth into.

That said, if you're still looking for other ways you can live an alternate life on mobile, how about a look at our list of the best simulation games on Android?

Vampir sees you playing as a vampire in a gothic horror-themed MMORPG, with pre-registration now open

I have a fondness for vampiric themes, much like everyone else in the world, really - I mean, the Castlevania series, for instance, hasn't been going on for as long as it has because of its art style alone. Netmarble is joining the bandwagon with its own take on these denizens of the night with Vampir, an upcoming MMORPG that honestly looks gorgeous even based on the short teaser alone. Pre-registration is now open with a bunch of milestone rewards, and it's already been well received when it launched in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan previously. The global launch will no doubt make an impact too, I'd say, especially since Vampir will have full cross-platform support for both PC and mobile.  ... Ananta now has an official release date, so you can start prepping for the ultimate influencer life

Ananta got us all hyped for its quirky mix of, well, everything, over at Tokyo Game Show last year, but this time around, we're getting another taste of the action with its new trailer - and a lovely release date announcement to boot. NetEase seems to be on a roll today, with Sea of Remnants getting the limelight too, along with this. In particular, Ananta will be launching on January 15th next year, and for something this massive, that's actually not too far away.  ... Sea of Remnants showcases its distinct puppetfolk art style in new trailer, with closed beta test to run in December

While I'm personally not a fan of the ocean, I can't deny its appeal when it comes to the swashbuckling adventures players can dive into on it, which is exactly what Sea of Remnants is going for! This fantasy RPG from Joker Studio and NetEase Games is adding open-world exploration to that, and if you're eager to give it a go, it's worth signing up for its Closed Beta Test in December. Combat is a turn-based affair with dynamic action, but for me personally, what's caught my eye is the very, very distinct visual style. It's got that Identity V look down pat - but with an extra puppet-themed oomph - which you can see in all its glory in the new gamescom trailer that just dropped below. ...
