Exodus' Opening Night Live Trailer Reveals An April 2027 Release Date

Exodus, the debut game from Archetype Entertainment, is officially dropping on April 7, 2027, according to a new trailer. This new information comes courtesy of Gamescom's Opening Night Live stream, one of the year's three Geoff Keighley-hosted showcases of new trailers and reveals from the video game industry. The new trailer mostly focuses on Salt, one of Exodus' crew of companions. She's an awakened octopus (meaning she has human-level intelligence and a translator chip for communication) who pilots a mech suit. As goofy as that sounds, the trailer shows off a cold personality and a tragic backstory. It also includes glimpses of Emrys, another of the game's companions, who's a Celestial – a highly evolved offshoot of humanity.
Exodus is developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by developers with experience at BioWare, Halo Studios, and Naughty Dog. Players inhabit Jun Aslan, the heir to a powerful Dynasty fighting to save their homeworld of Lidon. Between the game's third-person shooting, choice-based story, and colorful cast of companions, there are a lot of comparisons to Mass Effect, which is not surprising, given that many of the people who worked on this game also worked on that series. Its world also revolves around the concept of time dilation – the idea that people moving at near-light speeds experience time differently than those back on Earth. It might seem familiar if you've seen the movie Interstellar. Fittingly, Exodus also includes Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey's first video game performance as the mysterious C. C. Orlev.
