The gameplay of ColorSweeper is simple, as you're presented with a Minesweeper-style grid where each block lists the number of tiles that are the same colour hidden around it. From there, you need to logically puzzle out the shapes and colours, all without making too many incorrect guesses.
The World Painter event, running until August 27th, sees you restoring colour to a lifeless black-and-white world by making use of one of three assigned colours when completing puzzles. Each successful level contributes to worldwide progress, with some of the top-performing players listed in a globally visible leaderboard, and the limited-time commemorative Restoration Token sticker on offer.
Colour me surprised
ColorSweeper's mix of simple, repetitive and yet engaging gameplay with some distinctive and amusing animations makes for an unusually fun little puzzler. And while it doesn't have the flair of something like Candy Crush, that simplicity is arguably part of the draw.
It's something Stephen certainly found appealing. And I personally like the idea of doing a worldwide event that encourages people to play, as well as showcasing their achievements. It may very well be that ColorSweeper gradually gains a higher profile, on par with bigger names in puzzling if it keeps this up.
