Lil' Guardsman is a Papers Please-style deduction adventure with you as an unlikely town guard

Overview & Key Takeaways

While Papers, Please invoked a really grim and dystopian style of gaming, for better or for worse, many other developers have taken a slightly lighter view on the subject. Case in point: the upcoming deductive sim Lil' Guardsman, which is set to release on iOS and Android this winter, puts you in the shoes of the bane of all adventurers. In Lil' Guardsman, you play as the twelve-year-old Lil, tasked with covering your father's shift as, unsurprisingly, a guardsman at the gate of a city called the Sprawl. You'll need to interrogate various visitors, ranging from wizards to cyclopes, and decide whether to let them in, jail them or deal with them in some other way. ... [MORE]

  • Lil' Guardsman sees you take on the role of town guard for The Sprawl
  • Covering your father's shifts, you'll have the choice of who to admit and who to reject
  • This cosier take on the Papers, Please, formula is coming to iOS and Android

While Papers, Please invoked a really grim and dystopian style of gaming, for better or for worse, many other developers have taken a slightly lighter view on the subject. Case in point: the upcoming deductive sim Lil' Guardsman, which is set to release on iOS and Android this winter, puts you in the shoes of the bane of all adventurers.

You'll need to interrogate various visitors, ranging from wizards to cyclopes, and decide whether to let them in, jail them or deal with them in some other way.

Guards, guards!!!

Boasting over 100 fully voiced characters and different endings based on the decisions you make, Lil' Guardsman certainly isn't lacking in stuff to do. You'll even be able to spend your wages on upgrading your shed, all while pursuing the high score.

But even so, I can't help but see the irony that others have already pointed out. The inspiration from Papers, Please, a grim and dystopian story of abuse of power, being translated into a cute and cosy game about, well, abuse of power is certainly an interesting angle.

At the same time, that's no reason to dismiss Lil' Guardsman entirely. And with a hefty amount of content to sink your teeth into, if you're looking for something to test your deductive skills, with a new perspective on a fantasy world, then Lil' Guardsman is certainly one to watch!

And if you're looking for even more great releases to play on mobile, then you don't need to worry about checking Google or Apple's trending pages! Instead, just take a look at our constantly updated list of the best mobile games of 2026 (so far) for some of our favourite picks!

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire ties into season three finale with limited-time event

After the disastrous reception of the Game of Thrones finale way back in 2019, it seemed as if the franchise was done on television. But after the dramatic success of both A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, it's no surprise Game of Thrones: Dragonfire has been tying back into these newfound high points! And if you've been following House of the Dragon, you can now enjoy a limited-time event, available until August 24th, set to tie into the season three finale of the show. This event will see all the previously limited dragons return to the Hatchery, each modelled on their appearance in the show. ... Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls set to close service in autumn

Well, it's about that time again. Yes, sadly we have to report that another fan-favourite mobile game is set to shut its doors. This time, the victim is none other than Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. And unfortunately, you don't have long to jump in and have a go, because end-of-service is set for September 3rd. A side-scrolling platformer in the vein of the classic Castlevania games, especially Symphony of the Night, Grimoire of Souls already has an interesting history. Slated to shutter back in 2020, Grimoire of Souls would instead make its way exclusively to Apple Arcade without any monetisation elements. ... Silver Palace passes 10 million pre-registrations with detective cases and horse racing

Just to put it into context, ten million is enough to fill Wembley Stadium more than 100 times. Silver Palace may struggle to fit that many detectives into Silvernia, especially once somebody parks a horse in the doorway. Elementa Games says its Unreal Engine 5-powered open-world action RPG has crossed the milestone after concluding the recent Dichotomy beta. Silver Palace is coming to PC and mobile, although a launch date has not been announced yet. Its female protagonist was only properly shown last month, so the drip-feed continues. ...
