'GTA 6' Hackers Are Targeting Rockstar's Controversial Decisions

Overview & Key Takeaways

Recent Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay and map leaks are the work of a hacking group claiming to be "fighting for gamer's rights"

When some 50 gameplay clips of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaked a few years ago, it was largely the work of a devil-may-care hacker who seemed to do it because he could. However, the most recent leak that's spreading ahead of Rockstar Games and Netflix's extended GTA 6 reveal is pointed. The group, which goes by the name Cyberleek, also provided a press release with their leak that outlines three guiding "commandments."

These commandments are described on Cyberleek's website at length, but they primarily concern recent business decisions taken by Grand Theft Auto 6 publisher Take-Two Interactive. "Thou shalt not sell digital pre-orders," the first edict reads.

"Thou shalt not sell Fake Single-Player DLC," states the second commandment, most likely in reference to GTA 6's $100 Ultimate Edition, which contains exclusive content. The perks add cosmetics, like tattoos and hairstyles, as well as access to several shops. Though such additions would be considered optional in most games, a big part of GTA 6's community revolves around role-playing. Customization of a character's appearance is not treated as optional by this particular fandom.

"Thou shalt preserve single-player content," the last commandment declares. Cyberleek takes umbrage with Take-Two's decision to launch the game without a physical version. The hackers express concern that Take-Two could make GTA 6 inaccessible once support ends.

The "about" page concludes by threatening other publishers with potential leaks should they follow in Take-Two's footsteps. "Behave, or be the next target," the page reads.

Why are hackers going after Rockstar Games?

The political nature of these leaks is apparent even without visiting the hackers' website. All footage and images stemming from the leak are plastered with watermarks that claim Cyberleek is "fighting for gamer's rights."

Earlier in 2026, a hacking group called ShinyHunters also posed an ultimatum to Rockstar: Pay a ransom, or suffer a leak. Rockstar ignored the hackers, who went on to release the information. Rockstar later claimed that the supposed leaks had no impact on the game or players.

Arion Kurtaj, the first hacker who revealed unreleased GTA 6 gameplay footage in 2023, also tried to pressure Rockstar to contact him. The purpose of the communication has never been publicly stated. He is currently awaiting trial while in custody, and has continued to make light of his situation by posting on social media with an apparent burner phone. Kurtaj further claimed that his associates had access to GTA 6's source code, but as yet this assertion has not been validated.

Epic Mickey Brought An Icon Back To Disney, And Warren Specter Doesn’t Want You To Forget

After over four decades in video games, developer Warren Specter is retiring(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/deus-ex-and-immersive-sim-founding-father-warren-spector-retires-from-game-development/) from the industry. But as Specter moves towards the door, he wants to make sure that the team behind his 2010 game Epic Mickey(https://www.gamespot.com/games/disney-epic-mickey/) gets their due for bringing one of Walt Disney's earliest creations back home to Disney. In 2003, the development document for Epic Mickey reportedly spurred then-Disney president Bob Iger to eventually regain the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a breakout animated character created by Disney and animator Ub Iwerks. When the Oswald property was taken from Disney, the latter created Mickey Mouse and the rest was history. In 2006, Iger was Disney's CEO when he made the deal to bring Oswald home in exchange for the rights to sportscaster Al Michaels. Subsequently, Epic Mickey was the first Disney project to bring Mickey and Oswald together. Sixteen years after Oswald appeared in Epic Mickey, the character is getting his own miniseries on Disney+.. On his LinkedIn account(https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7494614998011375616/), Specter reacted to the recent D23 preview of Oswald's Disney+ show. He also noted that he that Epic Mickey's contributions to the character were being overlooked. "I'm seriously looking forward to the miniseries, but it seems as if people are looking at it as the debut of the character," wrote Specter. "Call me small-minded but that ain’t right." Specter elaborated that the game marked Oswald's first Disney role since 1928, and added that the game's sequel, Epic Mickey: The Power of Two(https://www.gamespot.com/games/disney-epic-mickey-2-the-power-of-two/), gave Oswald a voice for the first time in a Disney story and fleshed out his love interest, Ortensia. "I have to admit that I’m a little bitter about the lack of credit the team gets for all this," Specter wrote. "I was blown away that Disney trusted us and saw fit to reintroduce the little guy in a game. But the team did a great job and deserves to be recognized for it before Hollywood makes people forget the games ever existed." In 2024, Epic Mickey got a modern remaster in Epic Mickey Rebrushed(https://www.gamespot.com/videos/disney-epic-mickey-rebrushed-launch-trailer/2300-6465189/). Around that time, Specter acknowledged that Epic Mickey 3 was unlikely to happen(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/epic-mickey-3-is-impossible-but-series-creator-has-some-ideas/1100-6521409/), but he did say that he had some ideas for the unmade sequel.
