Overview & Key Takeaways

It's hard to really communicate the majesty and grandeur of outer space in gaming. I mean, there's only so many times you can stare in wonder at stars and nebulae before it all gets a bit samey. Fortunately, MoonDust: Cosmic Journey offers a truly visually attention-grabbing take on worlds of sci-fi and outer space! Available now on iOS, MoonDust is described by the developer as an atmospheric sci-fi exploration game. What that means is you'll have basic side-scrolling action in the foreground as you pilot your ship and avoid obstacles while collecting different elements, as in the background a gorgeous vista of strange alien worlds goes by. ...

Spaced out

Of course, this background isn't entirely for show, as it'll also occasionally be interactive, and even if it's mostly for the sake of building atmosphere, it does make what'd otherwise be a simple side-scroller feel a lot grander in terms of setting.

I was particularly dazzled by the visuals, which use a clever mixture of effects to make a relatively low-poly world look that much more realistic and flashy. It certainly makes me wish that MoonDust was available on Android as well, but it isn't the first time a great new release has been released to just iOS players, sadly.

MoonDust: Cosmic Journey is a bit of an interesting new release, and one that seems to marry fairly straightforward gameplay with a truly visually stunning art style. With plenty of excitement to be had flying your way through such gorgeous vistas, it could well be worth giving it a look if you're eager for more space sim action on iOS.

The Convergence is a dark fantasy auto-battler that uses an isometric perspective

As we head towards midday, there's an interesting little iOS auto-battler that's just crossed my desk. That's a genre I've often expressed confusion about the appeal of in the past, but if there's one that can justify why people like it, I reckon that The Convergence, out now on iOS, may just be that! With its isometric perspective and dark fantasy world, it's easy to see that The Convergence may have taken some significant inspiration from the world of Diablo. In it, you equip your heroes and send them out, watching as they either succeed or fail based on your preparation. ... MORE(https://www.pocketgamer.com/the-convergence/out-now-on-ios/)

Sally Face is the tale of one boy, his portable console, a prosthetic face and the horrors

The indie horror game is practically a genre unto itself. And with so many of them, there are equally ludicrous and disturbing premises for how the nightmare begins. But I think Sally Face is probably a standalone for its main character literally not having a face, and surprisingly, they're not the villain either! Sally Face sees you taking on the role of the titular character, a boy with a dark and troubled past, which is probably the best you can hope for, having to wear a prosthetic face after yours was destroyed. With the help of a portable gaming console that allows him to speak with the dead, Sal will have to solve a series of disturbing mysteries plaguing his home town with the help of his friends. ... SoulTerra Odyssey sees Bandai Namco take a crack at colourful, roguelike, match-three action

Over the weekend, a trailer for a new release caught my eye. With colourful match-three gameplay and some obvious RPG elements, I was curious why I hadn't heard of it before. Imagine my surprise upon finding out that SoulTerra Odyssey had just hit soft launch for Australia, the Philippines, New Zeland and the UK, and from none other than Bandai Namco. SoulTerra Odyssey pitches itself as a distinctive blend of match-three puzzle gameplay, roguelite upgrades and RPG battles as you explore a colourful cartoon world with just a hint of grit to it. You'll recruit a crew of quirky passengers to help out in your adventures, and leverage their abilities in battle. ...
