Summary

Players can get a great peek at the world of Grand Theft Auto 6 later this month by tuning into the GTA 6: An Extended Look experience on Netflix.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will receive an extended trailer at the end of August, giving players the chance to get a deeper look at one of the most anticipated games of the decade. In a surprise reveal, Rockstar Games announced Thursday that the next big look at GTA 6 will happen on Netflix.

Rockstar and Netflix announced that "Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look" is set to arrive on Thursday, Aug. 27. The trailer will premiere on Netflix at 3 p.m. EDT /. 12 p.m. PDT, giving subscribers an early look at what's to come in GTA 6.

Thankfully, Netflix isn't gatekeeping the trailer, and non-subscribers will be able to watch it — just not right away. If you don't have an active Netflix subscription, you can watch the GTA 6 extended trailer for free at 9 p.m. on YouTube. That's good news for fans who have been digging for clues as to when Rockstar will release the third, highly anticipated trailer for GTA 6.

“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” says Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction series at Netflix. “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”

At the moment, it is unclear what will be shown in the extended-look video. It could be a gameplay or cinematic trailer, but it's entirely possible that it could show design drafts and "making-of" footage with the devs.

To date, Rockstar has released two trailers for GTA 6. The first was released back in 2023, when Rockstar offered the first official look at Grand Theft Auto 6 and its protagonists, Jason and Lucia. The second GTA 6 trailer dropped in 2025, and offered a longer look at the game's setting — Vice City, Leonida — and the scope of the open-world game's gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the first brand-new GTA game in more than a decade, and expectations for it are high — the game’s predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, has sold more than 225 million copies since its debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. The sixth mainline game in Rockstar’s 28-year-old franchise takes the series back to Vice City, where dual protagonists Jason and Lucia seek a better life.

Here's the game's official synopsis:

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19, 2026.
