Brawlhalla goes green and mean as Shrek heads into the fight

• Brawlhalla is introducing the jolly green giant, Shrek!
• The tie-in comes ahead of the premiere of Shrek 5 this summer
• He's also joined by Fiona and Puss in Boots as playable fighters

When I was a kid, one of my favourite films was Shrek. Now I'm in my twenties, and one of my favourite films is still Shrek. You just don't get better than DreamWorks' own home-grown hit after all. And it seems the folks behind Brawlhalla agree, as Ubisoft teams with DreamWorks to bring Shrek to the hit fighter!

Shrek 5 is set to premiere this summer, so it makes sense that we're seeing the gentle green ogre getting the spotlight. Shrek himself arrives as a fighter in the side-scrolling Smash-like until August 19th, but he's not alone. Fiona and Puss in Boots also join the roster, while Donkey functions as a companion reacting to the events of the battle.

It's not just the characters getting the spotlight in this collaboration either. Competitive players can hop into the new Shrek's Swamp map, while the more casual Shrek's

Muddy

Swamp stage adds in a brand-new hazard for you to cope with (here's a hint: mud).

And if you're looking for even more Shrektastic (if that's a word) stuff to enjoy, you can also grab a new KO effect featuring the giant gingerbread man Mongo and emoji skins with characters such as Farquuad and Pinocchio.

While I'm one of those people in the camp that thinks Shrek 5 looks a little bit lacklustre, I'm certainly glad to see that one of my childhood favourites is still getting the spotlight. So here's hoping that Shrek's turn in Brawhalla also appeals to the Smash-like fans out there.
