Overview & Key Takeaways

War is hell, that much is certainly true. And at first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking that Fuga: Melodies of Steel, with its anthropomorphic cat cast and relatively cutesy premise of 'kids driving a giant tank', was cheapening the idea. But as Fuga: Melodies of Steel launches today to buy on iOS and Android, you wouldn't be further from the truth. Fuga: Melodies of Steel sees you leading a group of children in the midst of a war between the peaceful nation of Gasco and the Berman Empire. Yes, it's cats versus dogs, but fortunately the kids have at their disposal the enormous, mysterious landship called Taranis, which levels the playing field against their military adversaries. Even if the enormous tank's origins are just as mysterious as the weaponry aboard it. ... [MORE]

War is hell, that much is certainly true. And at first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking that Fuga: Melodies of Steel, with its anthropomorphic cat cast and relatively cutesy premise of 'kids driving a giant tank', was cheapening the idea.

Gotta' have soul

Yeah, things are a bit more Watership Down than Paw Patrol in terms of tone, to say the least. While the kids can buddy up aboard Taranis, and even head out onto expeditions as they make friendships, there's always the looming spectre of war just outside the tank to deal with.

And as if that weren't enough, the choice is always there to make use of Taranis' most terrifying weapon, the Soul Cannon, which itself requires the permanent sacrifice of one of the characters to fire. Yes, it's a machine literally made out of an orphan.

Of course, in between all this is what seems to be a pretty solid turn-based RPG as your intrepid band of plucky kids take on the forces of the Berman Empire. With a winding story to follow, and multiple endings depending on your actions, Fuga: Melodies of Steel could be well worth a purchase, especially with a limited-time discount at launch!

In the meantime, though, if you find yourself wanting even more RPG action, then you may be surprised to learn that mobile really is the place to be. Just check out our list of the best RPGs on Android for some of our favourite picks!
